What is Concious Uncoupling?

Conscious uncoupling is a term used by world renowned relationship therapist and best selling author of Conscious Uncoupling: Happy Even After, Katherine Woodward Thomas. It is an approach to ending a relationship that emphasizes awareness, emotional healing and mutual respect.

One of the key principles is recognizing that the end of a relationship is not a failure nor is it a source of bitterness and resentment. Instead, it is an opportunity for personal growth and transformation that promotes healing and well-being for you and your former partner.

This is especially important when children are involved. Parents learn to separate with the highest degree of goodwill, respect and without a “war of the roses” which is what traumatizes children the most. Being a mother of three, I am a very strong supporter of the idea that “we become ex-partners, but we stay co-parents forever”.

Who is Conscious Uncoupling for?

As a Conscious Uncoupling coach, I step in when a couple, or one of the partners, have decided to go separate ways.

Couples may have been married or living together, have had children or not, may be of the same sex, been together for 30 years or in a short-term relationship. Conscious Uncoupling is not limited to any specific demographic or situation. It is for people who are struggling with a breakup, full stop! - and you do not need your former partner on board.

There is a commonality I’ve found in my conscious uncoupling clients:  the willingness to take responsibility for their emotions and actions accompanied by a desire to find a positive resolution for both themselves and former partner. They value personal growth, self-reflection, open communication and they are committed to minimizing conflict and maintaining a respectful relationship, especially for the well-being of children.

THE 5 STEPS OF CONSCIOUS UNCOUPLING

1. Emotional Freedom

You will learn how to recognise and use the energies of difficult and negative emotions such as rage, hatred, fear and despair, and how to transform them into constructive energies, allowing for a positive change.

2. ReCLAIM YOUR POWER

You take will take responsibility for your emotions and and by shifting your perspective you will overcome the victimization role. Together we will discover new skillsets to cultivate, so you can be confident that you will not repeat the same painful patterns again in the future.

3. BREAK YOUR PATTERN

You will identify and transform your core beliefs about love and romantic relationships, and connect them with a deeper truth of your own value. Together we will identify new ways of relating to yourself, others and life that will allow you to have happier, healthier relationships in the future.

4. Become your own Love Alchemist

At this point you will feel prepared to create a positive future for yourself and others involved in the separation. We will find a way to set a healthy intention for a new form of contact you will create with your former partner. Generative communication skills will allow you to safely navigate into this new form of the relationship.

5. CREATing your Happily-Even-After

You are now free to create your happy-even-after and explore what that looks and feels like for you now.

I will support you to make wise and life-affirming decisions, creating new and healthy structures that leave everyone involved feel empowered.

what Conscious Uncoupling is not…

This framework is not a magic wand or quick fix to avoid pain and difficulty that comes with the end of a relationship. As your coach I need your willingness to work with me and I am by your side all the way.

Very importantly, I want to underline, that this is a coaching program and not therapy, therefore I cannot coach anyone who has serious psychological or mental health problems. If you can no longer cope with everyday life on your own and you take refuge in alcohol or drugs please seek a doctor and/or therapist.

Working Together

I offer Conscious Uncoupling in three languages: German, English and Italian.

We meet online as this enables me to work with clients all over the world and from different time zones. It is incredible how quickly we create a connection and safe space and forget about the screen!

We have a free warm-up call (up to 30 min), an introduction session and then follow the 5 step process in 60 minute sessions taking around six weeks in total.
